Modifying Drop-down Document Viewer script

Bear with me, I'm a newbie...

I've been using the Drop-down Document Viewer script (in the Document Effects section:

and I love it...its been the perfect solution for what I've been doing on the web with my English students. What I'm wondering...is there a way to add a password protection option? I use this script to direct my students to a particular place on our server to save their work and I'd like to add password protection so that only those who have the password get to that location. Every attempt I have made screws up the script. Any suggestions?

Adding a password protection feature will require server side coding, such as PHP. Unfortunately this means you need to be familar with a server side language, as I doubt you'll find a premade PHP script that will fit with the DD viewer script to work in tandum.
