Dropping Text

I am using a script that allows text to drop down. I was wondering if there was any way to put a pause in before the text starts dropping? Think of it like typing a joke, and waiting a few mins for the punchline to drop in. I don't know if I am supposed to copy the entire script here, or what? I'm a newbie, and a dummy, so please be gentle.
