how to hide a file

I've been wanting to hide my music source. Maybe something like encyrpt it so viewers cannot steal the song. How would I do that if it is a video/song?
What type of player should I use ,windows media, or Quicktime, ETC????

You won't be able to do it.

The only thing I can think of offhand is encoding with flash... but people say flash can be decompiled, so that won't do you much good.

If they can play it, they can play it.

With quicktime, just go to your temporary internet files, EVEN if you've disable right-click, save as, etc etc.

You can also do some tricky things in coding, but they'll always be able to find the url... they must have it to get to the file. Even if they can't, still, temp int files will work.

You can also do some more tricky things in QuickTime (pro), but that won't do you much good. You can link files together, so the file they download is actually just a link to the real file, but that will still download to the users computer as a file... see above... temp int files.


The only way to do it would be to somehow do some streaming stuff, but there are still ways around this, and it would both expensive (software) and complex.

Someone else may have some ideas, though.


If you just want to make it hard for the user, then there are ways to do this. But... someone good with computers will be able to get around almost (if not) everything.

well, is there anyway to get around putting the temp. internet file on there comp. I've never heard of anything, but i guess it's worth asking. can you explian the quicktime pro thing a little bit more please.

No. If they can't download it, they can't listen to it.
If you don't want it accessible, don't put it on the Internet.
