    HI Ausant

    Web standard is 468px X 60px ... rgds, Simonf

If your going to do banner exchanges etc, use the following code to allow people to link to your site, so when you modify your banner every other site that hosts you banner gets the update as well.

    <a href="http://www.yoursite.com/" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.yoursite.com/images/bannername.gif" width="468" height="60" border="0" alt="My Banner says this"></a>l

Ditto. Most advert blockers however block images with that dimension, so I suggest +/-'ing one pixel from the width so this doesn't happen.

And I know that there are a a number of average sizes for banners.
    Sizes for banner/button ads
    Full B: 468 by 60
    Half B: 234 by 60
    Micro Button: 80 by 15
    Micro Bar: 88 by 31
    Button 1: 120 by 90
    Button 2: 120 by 60
    Vertical B: 120 by 240
    Square Button: 125 square
    Leaderboard: 728 by 90

So no use in sticking to one size...

779 is about as wide as you should have anything on a page, and that assumes that a user with an 800x600 display has the window maximized.
