    Default Hit counter

Although, I agree, hit counters are generally ugly and a little old skool. I am really keen to set up a very discreet hit counter on a web page for a set amount of time so as to build a stat report . Can anyone reccommend a tidy freebie, or is it possible to build one?

    THanks

Lightbulb Do it CGI/Perl or PHP...

You can do it by 'Hand' via a server side scripting such as CGI/Perl or PHP. It's not too difficult. It depends on what type of counter you want. Is it only for counting how many people have been to your Web site? Shall it include any REFERER URL tracking? Will it ouput regular TEXT or triggered using IMAGES?

    That's it. Just IMO

Also, if you have permission and know what you're doing, you can use awstats.
