Lightbulb New here-merge 2 sites user info

I just recently began to play with php.(about 3 days old)
Been running through different cms's experimenting.
    My question:
    I have 2 different cms(seperate domains) on 2 seperate databases(same host)
    cms1 is e107 (Site)
    cms2 is phpBB (forums)

Is there a way to automatically share user login info from cms1 to cms2 ?(or vice versa)
It would be convenient for user access in both places without having to register in both locations.
If there is a solution, is it secure?
    Thanks

Most database packages allow you to connect from a remote location using TCP/IP. Simply specify the host instead of "localhost" in the *_connect() call. It's reasonably secure; I believe most such packages use an encrypted connection for data transfers.
