javascript picture help

I'm pretty sure this is a javascript question.... i only really know the basics...

I've been trying to implement a picture viewer like the one ebay uses where there's one big pic with a number of little thumbs next to it that the user can click on, which would then display the small pic in the bigger pics window... an example can be found near the bottom of this page, here...

the only difference, is instead of a bunch of thumbs next to the big pic, i want numbers (1 | 2 | 3) beneath the big pic, and if possible (not that important) i want to put captions below each pic that change with the picture chosen... and i want to incorporate this into an existing webpage...

can anyone help me code this?
