Switch Content I - No +/- symbol shown at start

Hi, I am new to javascript and this forum. I found this nice "Switch Content I" script fit my need.

I copied part 1 and 2 code to make a html file and loaded it with IE6 or Firefox browser. At startup, the symbol + or - would not display. When I click to expand any or all item, the symbols appear and behave correctly.
