css media query issues

Hi

I am having some issues with CSS media queries on a opencart e-commerce website I am building

the site looks ok on 1920, 1366, 1280 screen sizes which uses media queries in one CSS stylesheet but when it comes to the 1024px screen size

the styles are picked up on some div tags but not others, have started to notice that if a div tag has a position of relative it ignore the 1024 screen width in the CSS and goes by the CSS styling for the 1280 screen size

just wondering if the position is set to relative does it ignore the screen width CSS styling
