I'm probably one of the few remaining 25-or-under holdouts on this-- I truly hate all this stuff. It's so artificial. I like finding people online to connect with them. That's how you get an email address. Then you send an email. Maybe even meet up in person if you've got a lot to talk about.
(And for the record, I don't group forums in this category at all. It's like a pre-organized set of conversations about interesting topics. So much more substantial than social media!)

But then again... since I am 25, I'll soon be out of that 25-or-younger category anyway, and the kids can take over!


I suppose the summary of my position:
1. Social media does not replace real life. Like, really, it doesn't lol.
2. Don't pretend there's security or that potential employers aren't checking your facebook account! (And, no, I'm not just being paranoid. Though they'll have to lower their standards based on knowing so much about everyone.)

Agree. I even dare to say that, very often, sharing = being in love with yourself.

I have to agree: when I feel the impulse to share something via social media, it's usually because I am personally amused by something I've done/though of, etc.; often, I bet it's not that amusing for others. Of course, that only happens once every few months. My urge to "I should post that on Facebook!" is rare...

I am one of those few who actually knew everyone on their "friends" list in real life, before facebook existed. (With the exception of Keebs, but his is a "fake" account anyway. ) It's a convenient way to keep in touch with some of them. But in general, I agree—and it's a horrendous security situation.
