Red face Downward scripts for Oriental languages

Hello, (I think I must have put this in the wrong section)

I'm building a multilingual site; most of it's in Japanese; there's some Chinese as well.
As some of you may know, these languages can be written and read from top to bottom; but is there a way of doing this on a website without resorting to something like Macromedia?

Once I've worked this out, I'd like to make the text type itself out or fade in downwards in columns - but I think that's a JS question.

    Cheers,

    Jack.

What you can do is embed the font into the pages etc. Microsoft have a tool called Weft on url: http://www.microsoft.com/typography/WEFT.mspx that can assist you.

Thanks for that - I was wondering if there was a way I could slip my juicy japanese fonts on rather than leave website visitors with the same boring MS ones, WEFT sounds like the answer.
I think it'd be a nice change to visit a CJK language site and see the text vertically as in novels rather than the same old left to right.

    Hi Macdaddy

It should be able to... If you are writing the text into a table/cell etc... it should be able to be viewed correctly. I take it you can write in Chinese etc and you have the fonts and tools on your PC to do this, otherwise you will have a long editing task ahead as stated you need to write it top to bottom, right to left etc. rgds,Simonf
