Have you searched through the various slideshows/galleries on Dynamic Drive? I'm pretty sure some of them allow this, just look at the customization options.

Edit: I found this one in about 5 seconds.

There are more here (at least 3 with that exact information on this page):

(I don't mean to sound overly unwelcoming, but we do expect you to do a basic search before posting. After that, we'll be happy to help.)

Oh, well that is much more specific. I can't imagine that it will work right away for any existing slideshows, simply because they don't have the required code.
Do you want the area to be the same for each image? Or do you want it to also change with the images?

It's possible to do this, but it would require altering a script in a significant way.

This isn't my really my area, so I don't think I can do this for you (and I'm too busy at the moment). So here are your options:

    1. Hope that someone else stops by this thread with an idea.
    2. Pick a specific script here and post in the Dynamic Drives Script Help section with this request. See if someone can modify it for you. I know that some users here can do this; the question is how much time it would take, and I'm not sure. However, they may be able to point you in the right direction. Do you want someone to do this for you, or are you willing to do it yourself (with some help)?
    3. Post in the DD Paid Help section (near the bottom of the main forum page) if you want this done quickly.

Finally, one possibility would be to look for a div slideshow script, rather than an image slideshow. The reason is simple: You aren't actually looking for an image slideshow any more, because the changing part will not be the image. It will be the image plus some additional code around it. If you can find a div slideshow script, then you can simply make a number of divs, each with an image (plus image map) and rotate through them.
And here's a Google search for that:
    https://www.google.com/search?q=div+slideshow
I'm pretty sure those would work out.

Note: "area" is a little vague (because it can mean multiple things). For clarity/faster help, you should refer to this as "slideshow with image map".
On that note, Google seems to have some relevant responses. The first is a hit on DD actually. I'd suggest you start there. You may find that this question has been answered.

So that you are aware, at a technical level there are two ways to make this work:
    1. Basically the div method: rotate through a number of full "slides" with all of the content in them-- image, image map, link, etc.
    2. The image slideshow plus method: rotate through each component independently-- an image changes each time, and then it is assigned a new image map (or just new coordinates for an area), and then the link URL is changed.
Either one would work. (1) is probably a little simpler, although (2) could be integrated into an existing slideshow and perhaps give you more features you'd like, rather than writing those into a div slideshow.

    mrMC,

I have merged your threads because they are related to the same issue.

Please try not to post multiple threads about the same topic as it gets confusing for both us (moderators) and you. Its much easier to track the progress of a project in one chain of posts and previously posted information helps us avoid asking he same kinds of clarifying questions twice. Basically we like to keep all the details in one place.

Dan has previously given you lots of advice and suggestions for your next steps - you seem to have found something semi-suitable but you'll need to be more forthcoming with information for anybody to offer any specific help. For starters, it might be a good idea to provide the link to the slideshow you've chosen. Hopefully somebody will stop by this thread to help guide you further. Alternatively, if this is an urgent task (you've posted twice so im assuming it is) you might consider taking this to the paid help forum.
