    Default map copyright

I have noticed that most maps have a copyright notice, but no date. I hate that! I like to know when the map was published, so I can see how out of date it is.
Anyone know why they never put a date on a map?

if you're talking about google maps, look in the bottom right corner.

if you use google earth, the date the particular photo you're looking at was taken is shown also.

No, I know Google Maps shows copyright date. I'm talking about actual, physical, paper maps.

most recent maps (>1920's, in the US, anyway) do include a publish date - at least, the ones I have / have used.

Is there a problem you're trying to solve, or is this just a random observation?

Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. Or maybe Canadian maps just don't have that. The only time I have ever seen a date on a map is on those map books, where they put the current year on the cover. And even some of them don't do that. On any other publication there is a copyright date. I just wondered why there isn't one on a map.

If that's in fact the case, and they all don't have them, it's probably an official or unofficial sort of collusion. Older maps would obviously have a greater shelf (sales) life if they don't have a date on them.

If I'm not wrong you are talking about Google Maps but If you use Google earth then you can easily find a date on an image.

You are wrong. That's only one of many sorts of maps under discussion here. My last post, for example was in response to the post right before it where it was mentioned that printed maps and map books in Canada might not have copyright or other dates on them.
