Question Gooey Menu and Joomla issues

    1) Script Title: Gooey Menu

    2) Script URL (on DD): http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex1/gooeymenu.htm

    3) Describe problem:
I am trying to convert Gooey Menu to a Joomla menu module. Basically I'm hacking the joomla main menu module code to make it become a gooey menu and then provide it as an opensource module to whoever wants it.

I've converted most of it to Joomla, however now it seems I ran into a few CSS issues it seems since it's not displaying well. The jQuery is working ok, because I can see the position changing when I inspect the element. However its not displaying well. Funny thing is, in a specific Joomla debug mode, it looks to be working mostly ok

Can anybody help? CSS is my weak point, and I suspect it's clashing with the template CSS. Can I somehow get the menu to work independently of the Joomla template?

Where it should work but isn't: http://www.joomlawire.com/joomla25/ (it's the menu to the right of You are here: Home)

Where it looks like it's sort of working: http://www.joomlawire.com/joomla25/index.php?tp=1

    Thanks in advance

I've fixed the part where the menu wasn't visible, now it is working fine: http://www.joomlawire.com/joomla25/

I've still got one issue to resolve though ... the "Selected" class. Although the class selected is being inserted in the li as necessary, the effect is not showing up.

I'd prefer using this method, rather than using the selecteditem property, so if anybody could be able to troubleshoot why this isn't working, I'd appreciate.

The menu in question, is the one right next to the breadcrumb in bold. If you hover over it, you can see the effect, but the selected does not "persist" so to speak
