    Oh, I see. I had just seen the end-user interface. That's cool! Either way, useful, but this way very useful. I'll keep that in mind.

    So Wettergott, there are many options. Randomly searching will find lots of options, like Pulse. I've never heard of it. It might be fine. But what I'd recommend is using something that 1) has the options you need (since you don't currently require too many specific options, you'll have many CMSs to choose from), and very importantly 2) something that has good support if you need help -- in this case I'd say either use something popular (like wordpress) with lots of help easily available, or also Fast Edit because you can ask questions to its developer.

    Perhaps a little late,but better late then never,a friend of mine told me many years ago about putting the icon in my root named as
    favicon.ico
    That it would be cached automaticly in time as the icon/favicon for my web site.I did this for both of my web sites and never thought if it until I saw this thread.
    Thanks,

    serve2go works fine, but i dont understand fast edit. i just cant handle it. i'm trying to recreate my homepage with fast edit but it doesnt work.
    ...putting a picture over another ...i dont know how.
    ...making links with with pictures as buttons and hover function. i dont know how.
    ...insert the javascript...not even thought about it...

    does anyone knows a simple cms? i was looking for worldpress and was watching 3 tutorial but they cant tell me, if its simply enough for me.
    i want a software like pulse, where i just go into my sorce code and cut out texts i want to change. the problem on pulse is: its not for
    free. so is there any other cms for free, where i simply can change some text blocks by cuting them out of my own sorce code and fill it into the cms?
    i dont want to recreate my entire webside with such a programm.
    AND it has to be really small, not bigger than 10-12 mb, because my webspace is only 20 mb

    So what is it about Fast Edit that you don't understand? Have you read the installation instructions? Have you looked at the files provided that are specifically mentioned in the installation instructions (they're there to provide a sample for guidance)? Do you understand basic HTML page structure? Do you understand the concept of pulling common HTML blocks off into their own files to help layout/template standardisation? If you can answer "yes" to all of these, there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to work with Fast Edit.

    It might help you to understand that most CMSs tend not to run in addition to your website. Some can work as an add-on, but most actually *are* your website. They are an integral part of the setup and as such have to be built into it so everything works seamlessly together. In effect Fast Edit (or Wordpress, or Drupal, or Joomla) *is* a website, or at least the foundation that a custom template is built upon. It provides the basic structure and templating system, but you get to dress it up any way you choose, and that's what makes it so versatile.

    In its most basic terms, everything above and including the <body> tag of your website page/template could go into the "includes/header.html" file of Fast Edit - being careful to preserve the includes and scripts that are already there in the <head> section. You can also transfer your stylesheet into the default stylesheet that is provided in the demo. You don't have to but you can for simplicity. If you have any javascripts, just link to them in the head section and include them into the Fast Edit folder structure - maybe the "includes" folder.

    Then everything below and including the </body> tag of your website page/template could go into the "includes/footer.html" file of Fast Edit - again, being careful to preserve reference/placement to any scripts/includes that are already there (should just be the "fast_edit/fast_edit.php" include.

    And finally everything that is in the body section on your website page/template (everything between but not including the <body> and </body> tag) can go in the "fast_edit/_content/index.txt" file of Fast Edit.

    That is the most simple setup for a home page integration into Fast Edit. You can use the demo code that's already in the files as guidance but most of it is just a sample setup that can be completely replaced with your own build. Typically you would include some structural HTML and a menu in the header and footer files - the website template that cannot be edited by the end-user. The editable content that you want the end-user to have access to goes into the "fast_edit/_content" files.

    If you post the code for your website template I would be able to give more specific direction. Its very simple to setup and use but I cannot help you further unless to give me something specific to work with.

    as you see the homepage is really simply structured. i have some sub-pages but they all have the same style (instead of one -the winter.html...this has just diverent colored pictures and links)
    oh, i forgot, every sub-page has it's own pictures for the javascript)

    so can you tell me how to past this homepage into fast edit so that i can change the text "sprachtabelle". i dont even know if its good or bad to put the text into a table....

    Have you decided which version of Fast Edit is most suitable for your needs? Have a look at these scenarios and tell me what you want the end-user to do and what you don't want them to do: http://fast-edit.co.uk/help_me_choose.php

    When you've decided which version of Fast Edit will be best, download it and set it up so its running in Server2Go like we talked about further up this thread. When you've got to that point, let me know. We will then transpose your web pages into the Fast Edit demo pages.

    Also can you very clearly indicate which portion of the web page you want the end-user to edit - highlight it in red so I can see.

    puhh, difficult to tell which version i prefer. i can tell you why:

    this homepage is written for my parents how hardly know anything about computers. the only use word and outlook, if you understand....but i trust them to login in online and change some texts. (i have to write them every step on a sheet
    of paper).

    BUT....for other changes like images and styles i am responsible, so it would be fine for me, if i could still have full controll of the homepage.
    i dont know if i ever will change the style of the homepage, but perhaps i will add some pages and for shure some pictures and texts.

    so i guess the full version V1.0 would be right for me? i allready installed version v1.0 into serv2go before.

    what i want to be changed by the user is:

    I'm stuck on iPhone now but I'll take a proper look at things in the morning.

    Just thinking ahead to help automate things for you, can you zip and attach a few sample menu buttons for me - both states, so I can see what they look like normally and on-hover. I'd also like to get them without text (just the button background image) and then let Fast Edit's menu script build your menu on-the-fly, putting the text back on the buttons automatically. That way it will be easier for you when you add new pages or delete old ones as you won't have to create new button images each time. It will also be better for SEO as Google bots prefer text links (they can see text embedded as part of an image).

    Also, while I'm thinking about it, I updated the Fast Edit v1 script yesterday to include a "protect page" feature so grab the latest down as I think the new feature will be useful for you - just the "fast_edit/fast_edit.php" and "fast_edit/fast_edit_config.php" files have changed.

    To get you setup with Fast Edit - from the basis that you have the very latest Fast Edit v1.0 installed in the htdocs folder of Server2Go...

    Paste your stylesheet into the default one here: "includes/default_site_styles.css"
    Overwrite what's there except the 2 lines at the top, as we'll come back to them later;
    Code:
    /* IMPORTANT - h1.title and h2.sub-title are custom classes assigned by the title and sub-title buttons in the WYSIWYG toolbar */
    /* Styling for these must be included in your default site stylesheet otherwise the user wont be able to create main or sub-titles in their web page content */
    h1.title { font-family:Palatino Linotype, Book Antiqua, Palatino, serif; font-size: 16pt; border-bottom:1px dotted #999; }
    h2.sub-title { font-family:Palatino Linotype, Book Antiqua, Palatino, serif; font-size: 16pt; }
    Paste your home page markup into the "index.php" file. This is now your home page so you will need to move all of your scripts/css/folders/images into the root/htdocs folder so the markup can continue referencing them. For example, in your markup there are images inside of a "pic" folder, so put your pic folder (with all the contents) inside the root/htdocs folder - it should be sat alongside the "includes", "userfiles" and "fast_edit" folders.

    To keep things neat, I would also recommend moving the "fadeslideshow.js" file into a sub-folder - let's move it to the "includes" folder and update the link reference in the head section of your web page;
    Code:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="includes/fadeslideshow.js">
    Also update the link reference to your stylesheet;
    Code:
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="includes/default_site_styles.css" type="text/css" />
    At this point, start/refresh Server2Go and you'll see your home page instead of the Fast Edit demo.

    Now to tie in Fast Edit. I'll be refering you back to the installation instructions to do this: http://fast-edit.co.uk/installation1.php

    You are now at step 6, so cut out the red line of text "this is the most important part to change" from your new "index.php" home page and paste it into the "fast_edit/_content/index.txt" file, overwriting what's there. These pages are paired so when there is a "page.php" file in the root of the website, there is also a corresponding "page.txt" content file in the "fast_edit/_content/" folder (the files names are identical except for the file extension).

    At step 7, paste this code in place of the red line of text "this is the most important part to change" that you just moved.
    Code:
    <div class="editable">
    	<?php include($contentpage);?>
    </div>
    For step 8, cut everything from above this code snippet and paste it into the "includes/header.html" file.
    And cut everything from below this code snippet and paste it into the "includes/footer.html" file.
    The only code in your "index.php" page should now just be the code snippet from step 7.

    At step 9 of the installation instructions, you now need to make some changes to the "includes/header.html" file.

    On the very first line (even above the doctype), paste these 2 lines of code
    Code:
    <?php session_start();?>
    <?php require('fast_edit/fast_edit_login.php');?>
    Between the <head> </head> tags, under your <title></title> tag for simplicty, paste this block of code;
    Code:
    <title><?php echo $dynamic_title ;?> : <?php echo $website_title ;?></title>
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="fast_edit/editable_site_styles.css" />
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="fast_edit/styles/fast_edit.css" />
    <!--[if IE]><link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="fast_edit/styles/fast_edit_ie.css" /><![endif]-->
    <?php if (isset($_SESSION['username'])) { ?>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="fast_edit/tinymce/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/tiny_mce.js"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="fast_edit/tinymce/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/tinybrowser/tb_tinymce.js.php"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="fast_edit/tinymce/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/tinybrowser/tb_standalone.js.php"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="fast_edit/js/fast_edit_toolbar.js"></script>
    <?php } ?>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="fast_edit/js/jquery-1.4.2.min.js"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="fast_edit/js/jquery.cookie.js"></script>
    <?php if (isset($_SESSION['username'])) { ?>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="fast_edit/js/jquery.tablesorter.js"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="fast_edit/js/jquery.tablesorter.pager.js"></script>
    <?php } ?>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="fast_edit/js/fast_edit_functions.js"></script>
    You can see that the first line of this block is for a dynamic <title></title> tag, so delete your old one and let Fast Edit handle <title>'s on-the-fly.

    Now, you already have the Google hosted jQuery library referenced further down the markup, and you'll notice that the block of code above also references the same jQuery library bundled with Fast Edit. You should only have jQuery included on the page ONCE, so cut the Google hosted script line from further down;
    Code:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js"></script>
    and move it up to replace the line hightlighted red. Alternatively, delete the line for the Google hosted jQuery library and leave the one bundled with Fast Edit instead (your choice).

    Next paste this code right under your opening <body> tag;
    Code:
    <?php if ($dynamic_title != "Page Preview") { ?>
    <div class="admin-login">
    	Admin Login: <img src="fast_edit/images/lock.png" alt="Admin Login" class="login">
    	<div class="login-box">
    		<form method="post" action="<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF'];?>?action=login">
    		Username:<br/><input type="text" name="name" size="15"/><br/>
    		Password:<br/><input type="password" name="pass" size="15"/><br/>
    		<input type="image" src="fast_edit/images/login.gif" name="submit_login" value="Login" title="Login" class="login-submit"/>
    		</form>
    	</div>
    </div>
    <?php } ?>
    To simplify menu updates in future, cut out all of your menu markup (the entire #linkstabelle div) and put it into the "includes/menu.html" file instead, overwriting what's already there. You'll need to include that back into your page, so where the menu markup used to be, paste this line of code instead;
    Code:
    <?php include('includes/menu.html');?>
    Now open the "includes/footer.html" file and paste this line of code directly above the closing </body> tag;
    Code:
    <?php include('fast_edit/fast_edit.php');?>
    This is the line of code that puts the Fast Edit toolbar on your web page, and it can actually go anywhere UNDER "<?php include($contentpage);?>" in the markup, in the "includes/footer.html" file. You could contain it in another div but its usually easiest to place it right above the </body> tag.

    You're now at step 10 in the installation instructions. For this part you need to expand on the code that's in the "index.php" page and include the header and footer file that you've been building throughout step 9.

    Open the "index.php" file and replace the contents with this;
    Code:
    <?php include('includes/header.html');?>
        <div class="editable">
             <?php include($contentpage);?>
         </div>
    <?php include('includes/footer.html');?>
    You should now be able to start/refresh Server2Go and see your new home page working inside of Fast Edit.

    One thing, as the slideshow uses jQuery in noconflict mode, you will notice that it stops working due to conflicts with the "fast_edit/js/fast_edit_functions.js" file. This is easily fixed. Just open the "fast_edit/js/fast_edit_functions.js" file and do a "search and replace all" function to replace all the "$" symbols with the word "jQuery". Alternatively, you can download this revised "fast_edit/js/fast_edit_functions.js" file here; fast_edit_functions.js

    Refresh the page again in Server2Go and everything should be working again.

    These are the basics of getting your website integrated into Fast Edit. The only problem I foresee is that you've used absolute positioning for all your elements, which pulls them out of the flow of a normal web page. This will probably mean that when you login to Fast Edit, the editing bar will float somewhere in the middle and behind of your absolutely positioned elements. This doesn't happen if you use relative positioning and Fast Edit will always load right at the bottom of your page/content. To counteract this to some degree, add the following to your stylesheet;
    Code:
    .fast-edit-container { position:relative; top:550px; margin:auto; }
    You'll need to change the "top:550px;" value to suit, depending on how much content you're using in your page.

    Other things to do...

    Once you've got things working to this point let me know. You might be happy with things as they are, in which case, you can use Fast Edit to create all of your other pages as it will generate them in the correct format - remember that they'll now be ending with .php though, so for all the page links in your template, you'll need to change them all from .html to .php in your markup.

    One of the differences you mentioned is that you have different images in your slideshow, depending on your page - I can show you how to create an automatic switch in the header file so don't worry about that.

    The main thing is what you want to do with your menu. It's static at the moment, which you might be happy with, but let me know if you want to automate it so new menu buttons are added to the menu automatically when you create new pages. For that to happen, I'll need some menu button pics to play with (see my post from last night)

    damn, thats much. it's late and i am tired of my work, but i'll try your advises tomorrow.
    you wanted me to show you how the homepage and the links look like:

    http://www.file-upload.net/download-...tures.rar.html

    her is a .rar file with a screenshot of the index, and some buttons.
    the yellow buttons are for every page exapt the winter page. the blue ones are made therefore.

    as you said i put all the text on the buttons direct on the buttons via photoshop. so by now i have like 50 buttons
    the easier way would be to edit the text direkt on html, but i cant create the text like that. i get the color and the font, but it doesn't look so good.

    generall informtion:
    background is a picture of flowers (on winterpage snow)
    the yellow links on the left side will get their own sublinks in the next days
    in the square right botton i would write the texts

    every page has the same coordination of links, javascript, textfield and so on
