Default Hosting that would allow you to run an exe

    Greetings all!!!
I have an exe programmed in C# that needs to be constantly running, and have a constant internet connection to work. I can't run it off my computer as it isn't on 24/7 so how could I do this?

I imagine you'd need a private server. Even a VPS might not allow this due to security concerns.

Depends on why you're doing it.

Perhaps you'd be best off buying a cheap desktop (does this require a lot of processing power or RAM?) and plugging it in at home-- you have an internet connection 24/7, just not a computer that's on-- so buy a new (=old, cheap) one and go from there. I can't imagine renting a server would be cheaper in the long run unless this is just a month-long project or something.

If you do use your home connection, be aware of bandwidth, but from what you said I get the impression that's not really the issue here.

(Personally I'd suggest thinking about ways to avoid this requirement ... any way to run it only 12 hours per day? Or as a cron job once every hour? Etc.)

It's kind of the whole point of the program
It's a bot that interacts with a game; for users to connect to it, it needs to be active 24/7...

Hmmm... thanks for those suggestions... I'll mull it over...

Maybe it can run some adds too, to pay for the hosting!

Umm... in this situation - unfortunatly, that's not an option.
The user uses a feature within the game to connect to the bot... So no designing a ui with adds... The only way would be to send them as links and that'd just look really spammy

I think the biggest issue here, is the actual need for a constant internet connection. I think the best idea is to host it youself however, (VPN's are pretty expensive), so the first thing you need is an internet connection you can run it off constantly. Step two, is probably a lot easier, all you need is an old desktop you have around that you can run 24 hours a day, and it shouldn't be too hard to get one.
All in all, no matter which way you do it, it's not going to be particularly cheap to do this, so as a side note, I might say that you can run advertisments on these kind of servers, and is done often.

I really can't run advertisements on this kind of program. It's a bot that interacts with users to save them the time of having to find someone manually.
There isn't any space for advertisements..

Anyway, dedicated hosting isn't really an option... Bit to expensive with very little usage...
I've had an idea, might try that line of enquiry..
