It is indeed Halloween, as of an hour ago for me.

Wow, someone's up late . I don't celebrate Halloween, so I tend to forget the dates.

I'm glad we are (supposed to be) safe here (in Holland) behind the dykes.
I'll let you know when they collapse.

    You're safe behind dykes?

I wouldn't touch that line with a ten foot pole.

Yes, I lucked out again, knock wood. The storm was very severe and devastated New York City (perhaps most notably) and many other places. All I got right where I am were high winds, probably never sustained over 40mph with perhaps 65mph gusts, and not very much rain. Nearby and throughout the huge path of the storm there were many spots with one or more of torrential rain, crippling snow, flooding, uprooted trees, etc. I saw a picture where the front of a person's house was sheared away by the wind.

I spent a lot of time getting the house and yard ready for the storm though. I also laid in supplies in the event of a disruption of power and/or water and did a lot of cooking and laundry in case I couldn't for awhile. It was exhausting. But I'm pretty much all stocked up now so I can concentrate on what I do and enjoy best - coding.

We had sustained winds here of 45-50mph.There were gusts recorded of 76mph.

I have to hand it to my local poweer company.(we have our local, power company, our own water system(company ) and also a local internet/cable/phone service.

We were without power for about 17 hours(possibly because a fire station is on one side and we have the police one thew other side-each less then a 1/4 mile)There is also a main office for the cable/internet/phone collection where we pay these and the power bills if we like)

All in all the last three storms we lost power for less then 24 hours each quite a bit better then the rest of the state of Connecticut.
    Thanks,

    Bud
