as someone who is actually currently running the consumer preview of windows 8 on their laptop, I have to say that it is in a lot of ways a tarted up version of some of the older operating systems.

The touch orientated start screen can be quite handy at times, if you want to go straight to one particular app. I'm sure it would be very convenient for a tablet, maybe not so much for a pc though.

There's a lot of bugs in it however, which hopefully they'll iron out before the final release.

Probably my least favorite parts of windows 8 however, are:
    1. no start button
    2. as a result it takes a bit of effort to actually shut down the computer
    3. THE BETTA FISH
    4. some of the touch related features

    good things:
    1. easy to start particular apps
    2. extrodinarily fast boot from sleep mode (faster then a macbook air)
    3. I personally like the square corners metro style of the os

Well Traq, here's a quick lesson in shutting down your Windows 7 computer!

    1. Click the start button!
    2. Select shutdown!

If you need any further help, fell free to ask!

Can we all agree that Windows Vista is the worst Windows OS to ever be made?

I definetely don't think I'll be getting W8 when it comes out...

    Thanks for all the posts!
There are something about windows 7 that are more annoying than vista. I'm having more problems with access denied files. I have to 64 bit and decided to try and throw out the 32 bit windows media player and defender. It was a real ordeal. Anyway I got windows 7 to look like XP at least.

well, in my experience, windows 7 is quite reliable, the unfortunate thing with xp however, is that, although it has the largest market share of any OS, windows will have to cut support for it at some point, meaning that everyone will have to go with either, windows 7, or windows 8

I'm a very satisfied user of Win 7. I wouldn't want to go back to XP. I'll reserve judgment on Win 8 until it's nearer or at release.

It seems like large companies got a hold of it and refused to let go. It's good that microsoft was force them to update at some point.

indeed, I personally like windows 7, and with windows 8, Microsoft said that there'd been several thousand changes since the release of the consumer preview, so I would imagine that if they had any sense, they'd be picking up these kind of threads and seeing what people think they should change.

They're watching us! Or, more likely, they're not, because they're too busy doing internal testing that doesn't make sense to the rest of the world
If they just read threads like this, it would be too easy, you see...

I mean, what's the fun in not wasting thousands of dollars when you could just check the forums
