.js for menu not working in IE8

I'm stuck. I adapted the jQuery Gooey Menu for our own button images. It works beautifully in FF & Saf, but in IE8, the dynamically generated image for the a:active state displays about 80px too low.
Tried debugging in IE and got error
"line 28 character 4 'eq(…).position(…).top' is null."
I'm just an amateur - comfortable with CSS, but I don't know my way around JS much at all. I suspect it's something really simple, but I haven't a clue…
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

At a glance the problem seems to stem from you using an image for each menu item (instead of text like in the default demos). To confirm this try replacing each of those images with a text instead, ie:
