Jason's Date Input Calendar ghosting

I have implemented Jason's Date Input Calendar and it works wonderfully except that when the page first loads there is a red box where the selected date in the calendar would be as well as two black lines that also relate to the calendar. If you open and close the calendar they go away.

If you open the calendar and select a date, the black lines go away but there is now a red box corresponding to the new date.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

I had this too, only in Internet Explorer. I couldn't figure out what the css problem was, so I removed the lines (border-bottom and border-top, and the darkred border around the current date), and replaced them with background colors, and that worked.
