what happens with the content of a page when you shrink the window...

Here it is: I'm trying to make a simple website (basically, I used a table to format the layout of the page) for my artwork. It worked pretty well until I reduced the window size and the content of the page shinked with it. How can I make the content of the page stick to it's original size? I'm new to web design and all I know is enough HTML to build a pretty good looking page without much effort and knowledge. The rest is pure esthetics. Please help...

You don't want to. If it doesn't change size when the window moves, it's going to look awful for anyone with a different resolution.
