Full Page design

Hi All, just a quick question,

I'm testing a site for a friend at the moment, which will be full page design.
(i'm used to building sites with a centered container)

It basically contains a Fixed feader & Fixed footer on the page both 100% width, then with the content in between header & footer which is 100% width aswell.

Two problems i'm encountering
One problem is the content can stretch longer than the height between the header & footer and when you scroll to the bottom of the content it sits behind the footer
The second problem is linked to the first
if I was to set a height on the content div - it can make the content div look small on larger screens or larger resolutions

Is there a happy medium in between the two problems?
or would anyone have en example of this
