Default What is the difference between flash mx and flash 8?

On my computer I have flash 8. Can I use flash mx tutorials to make games on flash 8, or do I have to have flash mx?

The question is too general. You can use MX tutorials, yes. But they won't be exactly the same. Usually it will be fine. But some features might be different or even not exist in one version or the other. But in general, sure, you can use those tutorials-- but why not find some for the right version? Generally software versions don't change anything that much, but it won't make anything easier to use tutorials for a different version.

Default biggest change with CS3 version

It's hard to remember the many changes in the different versions of Flash. In 2000 there was Flash 5 with "AS1.0"; 2003 MX Player 6 had Drawing API and FLV; MX 2004 Player 7 had AS2.0 and external .as class files; 2005 Flash 8 had dynamic bitmap rendering; 2006 CS3 Player 9 changed to AS3.0.

The big change has been in ActionScript with CS3. The older AS2.0 version is not compatible with AS3.0 — which is more complicated but worth learning if you have Flash version CS3 or later.
