Smoothmenu falls down on rollover in IE8 and FF3

If one rolls over the top-most menu items, in IE8 and FF 3.6 the parent menu item falls into the next line and its sub-menu children open up beneath it as they should.
I have very little experience with JScript and CSS, being mostly tied to development in PHP and letting others with more know-how deal with such things as stylesheets and the like.
As such, I am appealing for help here since I have seen this kind of problem before but cannot recall how one goes about resolving it.
Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated.
