Default Looking for auto file size lister to go in html

I'm looking for whatever gizmo to automatically list the file size after any document html hyperlink. If it listed file type too, so much the better!
Right now, I have a pdf class in my CSS that appends a pdf icon to links, but I have to hard-code the file size for each link. An automated solution would make maintenance so much easier.
I searched several forums, but only found web site management type solutions (ie, backend directories)- not something to code into my html.
Thanks in advance for any solutions.

Interesting tool - something I might be able use elsewhere later - but not quite what I'm looking for now.
What I want now would be a generic tool (works across the whole site in other words) for individual files, regardless of what file folder they reside in.
