I am so lost....

Although I am experienced in making simple edits in external style sheets, I've never made one from scratch, which I'm trying to do.

I've googled for some tutorials, but can't find any good ones that explain things very simply. Can someone post some good links for newbies, please?

(PS, I'm using TopStyle Lite as an editor. I seem to be able to make the style sheet ok, I just seem to be hitting a brick wall when I try to make the effects show up in the pages)
