We have a recorded event in WMV format on a dvd about 1.4mb and would like to upload it and play it from our website.

    They used JW Player:

Since you have WMV, you should be able to upload it to either YouTube or Google Video. They will convert it for you and give you code to embed their player on your page. There are basic options as to how the player looks, works, and feels. And there are API's that allow for greater flexibility.

If you choose YouTube, it will provide your video the largest potential circulation as an ad and/or 'calling card' for your organization. And you may use your YouTube video in the JW Player linked above.
