Trying to zoom out beyond 1X with "Simple Image Panner & Zoomer"

I'm trying to enhance the current script to allow the user to zoom out (thus making the overall image smaller) beyond the current limit of 1X but I'm not having any luck.

Can someone help me out?

It's certainly possible, though the exact changes depends on how much you wish to scale down per step once the image is smaller than 1x, and what the lower limit should be. The attached modified script enables zooming down to 0.5x with 1 step from 1x.
