install CURL for PHP 5 (Godaddy VPS)

Hi,

we got godaddy VPS working and however.
however, the strange thing is that we don't have CURL installed by default. i mean we should get it with the server itself. but we didn't

we have root ssh access.

i saw this post: http://www.cyberls.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=167 but it didn't worked for me.

any tips on how can we do it.

I'm not sure of the best way to do this and you'll probably get a better answer either from a forum designed for server related questions (this forum is mainly for how to use PHP code, not really how to setup PHP on your server), or maybe from godaddy. Godaddy's support is usually horrible, but they'll have the best answer if this has been answered before since it will be specific to their setup.

Since I don't know any details about godaddy's VPS, I don't know what the permissions are like. It is possible that they don't give you low-level permissions to alter PHP, though with a "private server" they should give you full access... but if you keep getting errors, that is the simplest answer, at least.

Someone else may still have an answer for you, but unless another user here has had the same problem (and possibly on the same godaddy configuration), it may just be the case that no one knows.

I think you mean virtual dedicated server. I don't think that godaddy has virtual private servers. Of course they may be synonymous, but Godaddy calls them virtual dedicated servers.

I would also encourage you to do what djr33 said agive GoDaddy a call or find the answer on a forum that deals with server problems. If you find the answer please post what you learn here. I am curious what you learn and others may be too.

Anything in my post is meant to be synonymous with "specific allocated non-shared hosting that mimics a server". I think all of the terms are entirely synonymous except where any certain host may assign higher or lower prices and/or different permissions to them.

Basically hosting comes in 3 flavors:
1. shared (an ftp account, perhaps more)
2. a 'virtual' server-- it acts like a server, but it's actually on a shared system somewhere.
3. a [real] server-- it's a separate box from everything else.

Sorry, when I said you I was referring to chetanmadaan, but thanks for clarifying the difference between virtual dedicated server and virtual private server. I wasn't sure if there was a difference or what it was, but when I looked up the server types on GoDaddy I noticed that virtual private server did not appear to be listed.

No, that's fine. My post wasn't clear (careful) either. And at least I am not aware of a difference-- there may be one, but in most cases I think it's relatively insignificant (at least less important than the details of how any host in particular sets up a server and permissions).
