Default mobile phone provider list - please help

In our application there is a provision to receive user's mobile number and have him select his provider. If there is an alert, we send SMS to the specified mobile number. I have the following select box in the application - everyone says it is very hard to choose their provider from the list. I need to have only the wireless providers name in the list. How do i map the provider to his id's (there are several id's to a provider e.g., Cingular has mobile.mycingular.com/mobile.mycingular.net/cingularme.com) - is there a select box for this that i could use.

The list i use: Cellular Select Field

    Please help. Thanks.

Are you asking how you can automatically determine which domain applies to a customer (e.g., "Bob has a Cingular phone, should he use mobile.mycingular.net or cingularme.com?")? No idea. You would probably have to use a paid SMS service.

You can send sms from your application if you have users with mobile number and accepted sms alerts. You have to prefix their mobile number with their providers sms mail id e.g., if my number is 1234567890 and my provider is cingular, i can do 1234567890@cingularme.com - this will send sms to my mobile from the application.

I had the list of providers email id's but it was not mapped to the company name - the dropdown selection looked ugly and the users had a tough time finding out their provider (verizon looked like vtext.net).

I found this website which had the company name and the email id mapped - http://www.cheapcellphones.com/onlinemessaging.htm

    Problem solved.

    Thanks for the post.
