    Default Ultimate Fade-in slideshow (v2.1) Error IE8

    This fantastic tool works fine in FF, but gives a mistake in IE8 (doesnot function - black screen) and a small one in Safari (description with questionmark). The development tool IE8 gives an error in the external jquery.min.js row 12. Can anyone help me with this?

    Thanks in advance.

    For IE it could well be a comma at the end of the imagearray array:

    Code:
    var mygallery=new fadeSlideShow({
    	wrapperid: "fadeshow1", //ID of blank DIV on page to house Slideshow
    	dimensions: [250, 180], //width/height of gallery in pixels. Should reflect dimensions of largest image
    	imagearray: [
    		["http://i26.tinypic.com/11l7ls0.jpg", "", "", "Nothing beats relaxing next to the pool when the weather is hot."],
    		["http://i29.tinypic.com/xp3hns.jpg", "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cave", "_new", "Some day I'd like to explore these caves!"],
    		["http://i30.tinypic.com/531q3n.jpg"],
    		["http://i31.tinypic.com/119w28m.jpg"] //<--no trailing comma after very last image element!
    	],
    	displaymode: {type:'auto', pause:2500, cycles:0, wraparound:false},
    	persist: false, //remember last viewed slide and recall within same session?
    	fadeduration: 500, //transition duration (milliseconds)
    	descreveal: "ondemand",
    	togglerid: ""
    })
    But the error you report is not the one usually associated with that.

    As for Safari, it sounds like a broken (missing) image(s) for the description controls (see inside fadeslideshow.js):

    Code:
    /* Ultimate Fade-in slideshow (v2.1)
    * Last updated: Sept 10th, 2009. This notice must stay intact for usage
    * Author: Dynamic Drive at http://www.dynamicdrive.com/
    * Visit http://www.dynamicdrive.com/ for full source code
    */

    //Oct 6th, 09' (v2.1): Adds option to randomize display order of images, via new option displaymode.randomize

    var fadeSlideShow_descpanel={
    	controls: [['x.png',7,7], ['restore.png',10,11], ['loading.gif',54,55]], //full URL and dimensions of close, restore, and loading images
    	fontStyle: 'normal 11px Verdana', //font style for text descriptions
    	slidespeed: 200 //speed of description panel animation (in millisec)
    }

    //No need to edit beyond here...
    Make sure these are available to the page and configured correctly in the script. If you just download these images from the demo page and put them in the same folder as your page, it will be fine.

    But there are other things that could be causing either of these issues. If you want more help:

    Please post a link to a page on your site that contains the problematic code so we can check it out.

    Default The fantastic slide show II

    Hello John,

    Thanks for your answer: I (that is you) solved the Safari-problem, because I replaced your images with empty brackets. After copying them into the same dir as the page everything works fine.
    The IE8 problem is more difficult: it is not the trailing comma. I attached a text-file index.txt which is the page with the problems. I have not a working site yet, so I cannot provide you with a link, sorry. The slideshow code is in the beginning. For IE I made a workaround with conditional comment which only shows a static foto.
    I hope you can figure out what could be the problem. If you need more info, let me know.

    Thanks for the first solution,

    Robert33

    Your code, when setup with images and a copy of the script from my hard drive works fine here in IE 8. There's virtually no way to tell for sure what the problem is without a live demo. If you want more help, put a live demo of the problem up somewhere and give me a link to it.

    Thumbs up John's Amazing Slide Show

    Hello John,

    With reference to your answer I tried IE8 again (why should it work in your setting and not in mine?) and surprise, surprise: it worked fine! So the problem is solved. I think that the missing images caused the problem, because IE8 responds more severe on that sort of thing than f.i. FF or Safari. I didn't tried it out any further. Your amazing slide show is hitting the road again: thanks for your help!!

    Greetings,

    Robert33
