Haha. Well, I don't know exactly what Google is doing at this point except that you can "search by image" and it will find visually similar images. I wouldn't be surprised if it integrates that into the normal search now.
Also, sometimes their first updates are really bad-- just look at the "alpha" languages on Google translate. But the point is to gather more data, and then fairly soon it becomes a lot more reasonable. Maybe right now they're working out the details of the algorithms.

This is the lounge and is supposed to be funny, so I let it drag out a bit and acted a contrarian role. I actually know why those images came up, and you should too if you search Google Images for those terms:
tree nut shells
Still it might be hard to figure out. Those seemingly anomalous images were on pages that also had a heading or similar that contained the words:
In a Nutshell
or similar. So I can see how it happened. To Google Image's credit they were near the end of the page which was mostly filled with much more relevant image results.
It still isn't what I asked for though and is still an example (though a much less stark example) of Google thinking it knows what you want better than you do.

Yes - it made more sense when I got on a desktop computer
I did the basic search last night on iPhone where you cant easily check file names and/or follow linked images - the grid-like image gallery format is more restricted in that sense, although it loads much faster than it once did.
