IE8 ignores menu width?

I'm a newbie, so I may be missing something very obvious, but...
IE8 seems to be ignoring the width I set for the menu in my CSS. In FF, Chrome, and IE 6-7, the width appears to render correctly, but IE8 doesn't seem to respond to any changes. You can see the site in progress here:

Hmm the width of the menu on the left looks the same to me in IE8 and FF3.5. Or are you talking about something else?

That is what I'm talking about. I changed it to make the difference more obvious--now when I look in FF and IE7, the menu is only 20px wide, but it seems to have no effect on IE8

It's only 20px wide in IE 8 here. Now, perhaps the page is cached in your IE 8 and/or you have your IE 8 set to a different rendering mode. Mine rendered in Browser Mode: IE8, Document Mode: IE8 Standards. This was without making any changes to it's rendering mode. Compatibility mode was an option, when selected the menu was slightly wider, appearing just as it does in IE 7.

Probably nothing to do with this, but your page has many validation errors. This might be a problem with something else and/or as the page continues to be edited, create a problem or problems. See:

Yep the menu right now is only about 20px wide for me as well (most likely not what you intended), and this is the case in both IE8 and FF3.5. You'll need to fix that issue first, then let us know when we can check out the page again.

Yes, I made it 20px on purpose to illustrate the problem, but apparently it's my problem only; in IE8 on my computer, the menu remains 170 px wide. Every other browser/computer combination I've tried shows the menu accurately. This is not a script problem, then , obviously, but do you have any ideas why my browser would not be rendering properly?

Clear your cache in IE 8. Also, make sure you are navigating to the correct page.

On a hunch though I double checked your source code for the page. This:

could very well be the problem. Get rid of it. But still be sure to also clear the browser's cache after that change, and that you are navigating to the correct page.
