It looks like one of a few things.
First, check if you have the URL right. Some require that you do ftp.servernamehere.com.
If that's ok then try and see if where you are trying to connect is down, or doing FTP upgrades or something.
If not then let me know what security type programs you have running and I'll see if I can help.
Also, is it possible the site you are trying to connect to banned your IP or something?
Tim
Edit: skip step 1, sorry missed the part about you know your domains right.

There are a lot of variables with FTP.
Different servers require different formats for all of the possible data (with the exception of password).
The address is possibly ftp.example.com, possibly ftp://example.com, possibly ftp://ftp.example.com, or possibly just example.com (and maybe more). (also, maybe www.)
The username is sometimes just "username", and sometimes "username@example.com" (maybe more possibilities).
Some servers either require or are more stable with passive mode and/or secure ftp.
The default port for ftp is 21. This may be different on your server, so check that as well.
If you are using a host (rather than hosting it yourself), be sure your account still has the same info (like the password). Mine was recently reset to enhance security, so I just had to update my info and it worked.
If you try a combination of the factors I listed above, you will probably find one that eventually works.
FTP can often be very unstable even when it works. I think this depends on the server (maybe your computer/connection), and sometimes also on the software. I used Filezilla at one point and it was fine, but sometimes it did have trouble connecting. Try another program and see if that helps.

well, im now the proud owner of 3 useless websites with no support forums:
patiscool.000a.biz
patiscool.1free.ws
patiscool.000space.com
i've tried all kinds of combinations for the host field like
ftp://patiscool.000a.biz
ftp.patiscool.000a.biz
www.patiscool.000a.biz
ftp://www.patiscool.000a.biz
and they all return the same result, either the connection times out or
Status: Connection attempt failed with "EAI_NONAME - Neither nodename nor servname provided, or not known".
i suspect that when the connection times out i am entering things right and when i receive that error message i am entering things wrong.
the same guy is behind all of these services, the web sites offering the services look different, but once u sign up and begin filling out the forms they're all the same, they send u the same emails in the same format etc. so i think it could still be a problem with the service BUT I CANT GET A HOLD OF THESE PEOPLE CAUSE THERES NO FORUM!!!
