    Default Fade-in slideshow

    Script: Fade-in slideshow

I'm using this script to display 15 jpegs so it takes a while to load. Is there any way to do some kind of "loading..." come up until the images are loaded and the show begins?

What kind of connection to the internet do you have? If it is high speed, either your images are much too large or your host is much too slow. Even if you use a dial-up connection, most slideshows should be of a reasonable size to accommodate such connections. There are several ways to make your images load faster. Since this script already preloads, that is taken care of but does nothing for that all-important first image. If the slideshow is not on the first page on your site, preload that first image quietly (in the background) on all pages leading up to the slideshow. These are just tricks though, the real work is to crop, resize and optimize your images so that they are of the smallest byte size possible, while still being big enough and of a high enough quality to present a nice show. Certain types of images (those with one large subject, generally) are better for this than others but all will benefit. I use xat.com's image optimizer pro, there are others. I think DD here has an online utility to optimize images. If you know what you are doing or are willing to learn, any good paint program will allow you to optimize crop and resize images.
