New Shopping Site

Hi!!

I'm new to this forum but thought I'd ask you all for a some quick advice. I'm going to start my own site selling jewellery etc that I make but although I have done a fair bit of web design in Frontpage etc have no idea how to add shopping carts and secure pages for payment etc. My husband has said that ecommerce is best left to companies to do for me but is this something that can be done without using the likes of ShopFactory etc?

Any advice would be much appreciated.
