I could just have a mutated case of turkey-head, but I thought the Lounge needed a game to test research skills. So, here goes.
As challenges are posted, you will have 1 week to solve them. Their solutions will be posted every Thursday. The winner gets... well, nothing, really.
CHALLENGE 1
Expiration Date: December 3, 2009
There is an animal whose photo is linked back to from an article on each of two Web sites, one of which's English version is one of the top 5 websites in the world, and the other is owned by the same company. Both articles are in different non-English languages, and said photo is the only photo linked back to on 50% of all these articles. This photo is a derivative work of a larger photo. Now, there is a website out there with an important property--its title contains this animal's name, the sound its species makes, and only 1 other syllable. This web page contains 3 things--an illustration of the animal from the photo, a form, and a disclaimer. What is the number of letters in the body part of the animal that the original photo documents, subtracted from the number of letters that the property of the webservers has (per the disclaimer)?
Oh, right. Rules. You can only use the Internet.
I don't care what search engine you use. I recommend GoodSearch. It's the only possible way for geeks to ever get around to donating to charity. Like random animal shelters in rural Washington State. That was a link, by the way.
Sorry about that. The turkey-head is back.
