Default help with flash loading images not displaying

Hi Guys,

I am using a Flabell image rotator and all is ok with most of the pages showing the photos fine except for one, the main landing page located at

http://www.getmeonline.ie/fitzsimons/index.html

The images load fine on http://www.getmeonline.ie/fitzsimons...ion/index.html and others.

I know its obviously a problem with the paths but have tried everything and nothing seems to work!

Much apperciate any help.

Kind Regards,
iflyjetz

In the banner_index.xml file, the paths to the images are probably incorrect. You are using relative paths. I believe these should be relative to the page which is using these images, not relative to the xml file. Instead of, for example:

Code:
../images/roof1.jpg
try:

Code:
images/roof1.jpg

Hi John,

Thanks for your help!

I also asked afriend of mine for his ideas and he mentioned the exact same thing, unfortunately it does not sem to be working!

Here is the code under banner_index.xml as it is now, (and uploaded with the update too)

Code:

<banner width = "700" height = "300"
startWith="1"
backgroundColor="0xffffff"
backgroundTransparency="100"
barHeight="20">

images/roof1.jpg

<target>_blank</target>
<bar_color>0xcd0a10</bar_color>
<bar_transparency>70</bar_transparency>
<slideShowTime>3</slideShowTime>

</banner>
I have removed the other pictures just to be able to concentrate on the error

Regards,
iflyjetz

Well, you could always try the absolute path, as indicated here (on the index page):

Code:
/// path to the content folder(where the xml files, images or video are nested)
/// if you want to use absolute paths(like "http://domain.com/images/....") then leave it empty("")
flashvars.pathToFiles = "images/";
But before I tried that, I'd try:

Code:

<banner width = "700" height = "300"
startWith="1"
backgroundColor="0xffffff"
backgroundTransparency="100"
barHeight="20">

roof1.jpg

<target>_blank</target>
<bar_color>0xcd0a10</bar_color>
<bar_transparency>70</bar_transparency>
<slideShowTime>3</slideShowTime>

</banner>

Hi again,

Neither worked!

This is getting to the point where i really want to solve it to see where the problem is rather than trying to go about it another way as i usually would!

I even used full absolute paths for everything with a url to no avail. (this version was not uploaded)

??!!??!!

I tried making a local mock up of the page, but not even the working page would run it then. This severely limits what I can do to diagnose this. One thing I would try, is that since all of the ../ stuff works for:

fitzsimons/accomodation/index.html

would be using its images and xml file for:

fitzsimons/index.html

then just get rid of all of the ../ in the code for first the index page, see if that works, then if not, in the xml page.

One thing that occurred to me also is that by using only the one image to simplify things, you may be causing another problem, in that the preview.swf may require two or possibly even more (3 or 4) images to even work in the first place.

Another thing that you should investigate is the possibility of a forum for this preview.swf Flash application. If there is one, this is likely to have come up before.

Hi Again John,

tried what you suggested first, no luck!

Added in the other few images just in case, no luck!

Changed all the urlss to absolute (and updated online) no luck!

Looked for any help somewhere else, all I managed to find relevant was this link: http://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/for...492bc89452cb86 and a link to this conversation!

I think its time to move on and give up? What do you reckon?

Not working in IE 6 is pretty much still a deal breaker these days. It looks like your page also has other issues in that browser though. It is hard to tell if they are all caused by the preview.swf not working or not, but it looks like there are other issues.

On the other hand, you could use conditional comments to setup styles that would present alternate content to IE 6 and less, that's assuming you can get the thing working in other browsers.

There probably is a solution in other browsers. If you still want to use this, the best thing right now would be to take a good long break from it, like a day, start fresh after that.
