Expando not expandoing

1) Script Title: Expando Image Script

3) Describe problem: I've implemented the code word for word and the expando.js file, but there's no expanding when I hover over the image. I've tried a few images, and tried it online and offline with frontpage but just can't get it to work.

I don't know whether it's frontpage that is having some kind of effect? I even pasted the images from the example into my page, and they didn't work either!

any help much appreciated, angry French woman after me!!

As an additional bit of info, I tried to get the magnifier script (I think it's JQuery magnifier or something similar) to work, and that also failed. I think for the same reason possibly.
