Default Mod_Rewrite Rewriting Even After I Remove it from .htaccess

It's kind of hard to explain, but I'll try....

I had a mod_rewrite rule in my .htaccess file. But, now I go to remove it, and it's still working, even though there's nothing in my .htaccess file!

I've tried removing everything from the file, deleting the file, using force-reload when restarting Apache... Nothing's working!

I had it removing the .php of files, but now I need the extensions, and it's really bugging me that no matter what I do, it won't shut off the RewriteEngine!

It's very strange, and I can't figure it out...

    Any help would be great!!

Edit: Even deleting the mod files from the /etc/apache2 directory doesn't do it!!!

    Thanks,

    Default

I copied a .htaccess file created by Wordpress to the directory, and it seems to work now... It was still a very weird, and unsolved, mystery.....
