using flyout menus css/html

I was trying to use this flyout menu on IE 5.5 and IE 6 and for some reason IE doesn't support z-index on this version, and I couldn't get the menu to work unless I used a z-index of greater than 1 for the flyout layer.

IE 6 and below are all horrible for little JS/CSS tricks like that... i actually have some pages i designed with similar functionality that i had to also make IE6 friendly pages, then i had to write a script to check the browser and if it was ie6 or below, then it went to that page... really kinda sucks... MS needs to do a forced update to rid the world of ie6 and below lol
