I would like to know if anyone can help me with this pickle

i am using a navigation with images now one opton is to embed a font and just use 2 backgrounds

No. 2 option is to use 2 images for each menu item with the text of the button on the image it self

no.2 option is the onle i want to use can someone tell me how to go about this
