Featured Content Slider - IE transparency problem

I am using the script for the featured content slider. In each slider div I have a span with a background colour of black and is semi transparent (90%). The problem is in IE the

filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.alpha(opacity=100);

This is needed in contentdiv css for the fade effect to work. This however causes my span to be transparent but its as thought the image int below it because when its transparent the background comes through instead of the image. You can view it in action here.

Works perfectly in FF, any ideas how to get it to work in IE? Thanks in advance.
