Have found this script which does most things I want to and is in use on
http://www.equinepainting.co.uk/index.htm

only remaining problems -:
I'd rather have the glider at 80% of available content area width and centered - but I can't figure out how to center it in the content area..

it says its IE 6 compatible, but if I view it in that - in conjucntion with my fake frames set up (also from here) then the glider box stays where it is but the navigation controls scroll up with the rest of page - works fine in later IE and FF though...
