Email validate

i've been trying to use this code to validate and email address before submitting but its not working. The example shows a basic validate without processing a forum. can anyone help me with applying this to processing a forum?

The reason why i like this code is because its small and light weight, i've seen others that are just too much coding to verify a simple email address.
