"Hover" Buttons

Thank you in advance for reading this. Overall, I am just becoming familiar with REAL web development.

In my developing a site with hyperlinks whiich look like buttons, I would like a small picture to pop up next to the text link on the left of the text hyperlink when a user's cursor hovers over the text link. I do not want to use a picture for the text "Home" because some browsers do not support images. This is why I would like the image to pop up when a user's mouse hovers over the text hyperlinks.

Any ideas??? (Preferably free - of course - and also for commercial application)
