    Unhappy Overwrote my external hardrive....

I have a external hard drive that had a large folder with my only backup files from my old laptop I copied over that folder with another (smaller) folder. Do you think I can recover any data in this situation?

I am considering using Data Rescue II to remedy the situation...advice, suggestions?

    Thank-you all.

There should be fragments of the original data left, those occupying sectors on the disk that weren't directly overwritten. Several recovery tools will be able to get that back for you. A forensic computer examiner might even be able to get the entire thing, even the parts overwritten.

Have you tried Recuva, the free alternative?
