Frogjs broke in IE8
1) Script Title: Frogjs image gallery
2) Script URL (on DD): http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamici...ogjs/index.htm
3) Describe problem:
Problem with script in IE8.
Gallery does not work in IE8 (ok in IE7, FF, Safari, Chrome, Opera).
Images never finish loading.
BTW neither compatibility mode nor adding
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />
to the head tag resolve this.
Can anyone identify issue and resolve?
Thanks.

Are you talking about the demo page on Dynamic Drive, or your version? If the demo page on Dynamic Drive works in IE 8, then it is your markup, or something you are doing. If the demo on Dynamic Drive does not work in IE 8, it's hard to say as it has no meta tag for compatibility. But try it in compatibility mode, just to see. If it works either way, then it's something you are doing, and we would need a link to your page to figure out what that is.
If even that will not get the demo page on Dynamic Drive working for you in IE 8, it's either some setting in your IE 8, or a problem in that browser as regards the script which could at least potentially be fixed. But, as this is a third party script though, and none of us are writing for IE 8 yet (it's not an official release yet), you might want to contact the author.

Both - my page doesn't work in IE8 - yet it's been ok in every other browser for over 12 month.
And the demo also doesn't work in IE8. Have you tried the demo in IE8? Does it work for you?
I have only recently installed IE8 and have not altered any settings from the default.
As I said previously compatibility mode doesn't fix either.
I contacted the author and did not get a reply.
If Frogjs is not compatible going forward and is not going to be fixed then it really should be removed from DD at some point. What is DDs policy on removing scripts which cease to work in latest versions of browsers and don't get fixed by their authors?

The script does indeed not work in IE8RC1 (at least the copy I've got) but you have to understand that a release candidate is not official and you can't expect all the scripts to work with it. Wait for the official release of IE8 and then check if the script is working.

fair enough - I'll wait and see...

I was playing around with this. I found that after messing with RC1's developer extension a bit, the script worked. But, as far as I know, Frog has been deprecated here at Dynamic Drive. Though it's still on the main library's servers, it's demo page is an orphan. It cannot be found via search (unless you are fairly clever and happen upon a cached copy of previous search results, or find a post that links to the demo).
I also noticed something else about this script because I made a port of it to jQuery. It's just not reliable in any browser. It can tend to hang because the incremental preloading of the larger images during initialization/use doesn't always succeed in a manner that results in the gallery progressing to the next image. This is also true of my port, but I may be revisiting it a some point to see if that can be overcome.

I don't see how you can claim that frogjs is deprecated and it's gallery page is an orphan.
The script can certainly be found via search for 'frogjs' AND it can be navigated to from the home page as follows:
DD home page > image effects > image galleries and viewers > frogjs image gallery
http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamici...ogjs/index.htm
upon which there is the script instructions and download just like every other DD script.
IE8 is now released....

The marketeers say yes: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7952505.stm
Microsoft's website probably hasn't caught up with their marketing machine.

No, BBC is just a tad early with their news, the final version of IE8 will be released today at 4pm GMT so in about an hour. When it is released, download it and test the script and only then post back.
