All of the mentioned sites are great, but in edition to going through the sites, help out people in the javascript thread. Even if you have to look up solutions, you'll be learning. The many and diverse problems posted there will give you experience in many areas.

W3Schools is certainly not 'great'. W3Schools is possibly the furthest thing from 'great' I can think of. Tizag is little better, and the Javascript tutorial there is misleading and badly written. There are some good tutorials on JavaScript Kit, but unfortunately the primers don't seem to be among them.
