hvmenu center alignment issue depending on length of page

I'm trying to use the HV Menu on a page with center alignment. Most of my pages will be very long, requiring the scroll bar to appear on the right of the browser window. When I center the hvmenu, it is off by a couple of pixels (varies by browser but approximately 7-8). So to compensate for this I set the following: MenuCentered='center' and StartLeft=-8. This mickey mouse approach doesn't really work across all current browsers and definitely becomes a problem with shorter pages that don't require the scroll bar to appear. Here are some examples:

Longer page with scroll bar:

Shorter page with no scroll bar (using all of the same settings from above - just less content on the page):

I'm kind of stuck. I've been playing with it all morning and can't figure out a way to make this work across multiple browsers. I know that it's the scroll bar causing the problem. If you look at the example of the shorter page and make your browser window small enough to make the scroll bar appear, then the page will display correctly. So how do I make the page always display correctly regardless of the scroll bar?
